Hawaii keeps a watchful eye on Hurricane Iselle | KHON2

Everyone in Hawaii should pay close attention to forecasts this week and be prepared for the possibility of a tropical storm hitting the islands.

The latest information on Hurricane Iselle is that it did strengthen overnight and is now a Category 3 hurricane, with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph, with gusts up to 144 mph.

The storm is moving westward towards the state, and by late in the week — we’re thinking late Thursday or early Friday morning — we’re going to have a 50 mph tropical storm in the vicinity of Hawaii.

It’s possible the storm could veer a little north or south, but it’s still too early to tell.

Worst case scenerio, a tropical storm will directly hit the islands and we’ll see heavy rain and winds in the 30-50 mph range.

If that wasn’t bad enough, another storm is following Iselle and appears to be following its track.

These are two significant systems that we will be closely monitoring.
